Frequently Asked Questions

What ages of children, adolescents, and adults will you treat?

Divergent Dietitian specializes in treating eating disorders and disordered eating in individuals 12+ years of age. If you are seeking care for an individual younger than 12 years of age we are happy to provide a referral.

Do you take health insurance?

Unfortunately, most insurance companies do not cover nutritional therapy. Because of the extensive time required to pursue this coverage, Divergent Dietitian is unable to utilize insurance. Clients are required to keep a credit, debit, or HSA card on file which is charged following appointments.

If you know that your insurance company does provide coverage we are willing to provide a Superbill after your appointment for reimbursement. However, full payment is required at the time of appointment. If you choose to submit a Superbill it would be for reimbursement to you rather than Divergent Dietitian.

In our experience, some companies will reimburse individuals for a single case agreement (i.e. a spcific amount of sessions at a predetermined rate) even if their insurance company fails to offer coverage. In these situations, we will provide diagnostic codes, procedure codes, and invoices as requested to assist you in obtaining some reimbursement.

What is the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

A dietitian is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) is a food and nutrition expert who has completed a master’s degree and at least 900 hours of supervised accredited dietetic practice. In addition, she or he must pass a national RDN examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and complete continuing professional educational requirements. In contrast, the term nutritionist isn’t regulated and can be utilized by any individual without training or accreditation.

Do you offer Telehealth?

Yes. We offer both telehealth and in person appointments. If you feel comfortable, our preference is to see clients in person; however we know that both distance and health status may impact your decision. We are happy to support you via telehealth in HIPAA protected virtual appointments.

Can my family or friend come to an appointment with me?

Yes! Including others in your treatment can be highly beneficial. With that said, the time spent in our office is yours. If you wish to meet with a provider alone, your request will be honored. If you wish to bring a family member or friend to the appointment, your request will be honored. Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible so that we can improve nutrition.
